DIY Cosmetic Products – Fun, Easy, Safe

Have you ever thought about making your own make-up or a skin care product? Either for fun, because it would be way cheaper than most ‘real’ products, or maybe because you want to know exactly what ingredients you are putting on your skin. In any case, making your own cosmetic products can be quite easy. You might not be able to make everything, but there are tons of things you can make that will work just as well, if not even better, than the ones bought in the store.

Face masks

Nourish your face with a yoghurt face mask. You do not have to mix it with anything, just put it on your face and let it sit for fifteen minutes, and then wash it off with warm water.

Honey is a great ingredient for your skin because it hydrates it and because of its antibacterial properties. To make a face mask with it, simply mix a teaspoon of honey with a teaspoon of cinnamon and a teaspoon of nutmeg.

Face mask from a banana can also help moisturize your skin and make it feel softer. And the best thing, just like with yoghurt, you do not need any other ingredients. Mashed up banana will do great on its own.

A face mask made with oatmeal will have a calming effect on your skin. To make it, blend four spoons of oatmeal in a blender or a food processor until it turns into the powder. Mix in a spoonful of honey, and then one egg yolk. Make a paste and apply it to your face, with exception of the area around the eyes, of course. Wash it off with lukewarm water after fifteen minutes.

Face scrubs

You can make a simple but effective face scrub by combining a teaspoon of cinnamon and a tablespoon of honey and making a paste. It should be applied to face in circular motions. It works great against inflammations, acne, and scarring.

A Mediterranean face scrub will clean and nourish your skin. You can make it by mixing equal amounts of sea salt and olive oil until you make a paste.

Coffee is a great ingredient for the face scrubs. There are many options, but even the most simple one – mixing a spoonful of coffee with a spoonful of water – will do a great job.

We mentioned salt, so it is only fair to mention a face scrub with sugar too. You can make it by mixing a tablespoon of sugar with a tablespoon of lemon juice, and then adding coconut oil until you make a paste. It works great against acne and blackheads.

Lip scrubs

A simple lip scrub can be made by mixing half a tablespoon of honey with either a tablespoon of baking soda or sugar. Apply it to lips, let it do its job for five minutes, and then wash it off with warm water.

You can also make a lip scrub with coconut oil. One of many possibilities is mixing half a teaspoon of coconut oil, half a teaspoon of cinnamon, and half a teaspoon of sugar. This one can be left to do its work for up to ten minutes.

Another option is a lip scrub made by mixing a few drops of olive oil, a few drops of water, and a teaspoon of sugar.
